Piñon Valley Elementary is located at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain in the southwestern part of Colorado Springs, Colorado. We are within a mile of NORAD and Fort Carson Army Base
At Piñon Valley Elementary School, our vision is that children will feel safe, accepted, supported and academically challenged. They will be encouraged to become life-long learners who demonstrate a love of learning. They will have a solid mastery of basic skills and an understanding of practical applications of learning in everyday life. Children will also be provided with enrichment activities to encourage the development of divergent thinking, problem solving and creativity. Students will be encouraged to take responsibility for their own actions and will be held accountable for their academic performance and their social interactions with their peers. The uniqueness and strengths of every individual will be valued, accepted and encouraged by all staff members.

Think Ahead and Pre-Order Next Year's Planners and Edukits
If you can believe it, it is time to be thinking about the upcoming school year, albeit for only the briefest moment, until we are haplessly thrown into our summer adventures. Now is the time to pre-order your child(ren) a planner and/or Edukit for next year. Planners are required in at all grade levels except Kindergarten and cost $8.00 each. Edukit prices vary depending upon the grade level. Edukits are extremely convenient and can save you a lot of shopping time and effort. Planners and Edukits cannot be paid for together, so please write separate checks. If you need an order form for either of these purchases, please inquire at our front office.

Monthly SAAC Meeting Time Will Change to During the School Day
For the remainder of the school year, we have decided to hold our SAAC (School Accreditation and Accountability Committee) meetings during the school day. We are hoping that by holding these meetings during the school day, more parents will be able to participate. Critical and pertinent school information is shared at these meetings and the more representation we have around the table, the better it will be for our students. Please mark your calendars and try to join us for the next meeting on Tuesday, March 13th at 2:30 in the PVE Conference Room. For those of you who prefer planning ahead, the last two meetings of the year will be on the second Tuesday of April and May 17th at 2:30pm.

A Friendly Reminder About PVE Playground After School Policy
Just want to remind returning PVE families and inform new PVE families that students are not allowed to play on the playground equipment immediately after school is dismissed. There is no staff supervision on the playground at this time and it is a liability concern. Please know you and your family are always welcome at Piñon. Play can resume under parental supervision at 3:30pm. I apologize if this is an inconvenience for you, but please feel free to use the park across the street to congregate. I appreciate your understanding!

Who Can Bike To School?
At PVE, our fourth through sixth grade students are welcome to ride their bikes, scooters, or skateboards to school (using sidewalks, of course). All of our younger students must walk or be dropped off unless they are supervised or accompanied by a parent. This is in an effort to protect all of our students. This week we've had a few near misses and I just wanted to remind families of our Piñon policy on this. Third graders may join this privileged group during the second semester of the school year. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
